Santa Cruz Writes believes that all authors, regardless of age, should have multiple opportunities to publish and share their writing. In addition to creating those opportunities, we hope to act as a conduit for those seeking publication and those looking to publish the work of writers. |
phren-Z Literary Magazine
The initial publication created by Santa Cruz Writes is phren-Z, designed as an online literary magazine for the writers of Santa Cruz County. The magazine will publish quarterly beginning in February 2012, as well as ongoing FloodLight features. Submissions are open to anyone in Santa Cruz County over 18 years old. Local Publishers and Literary Promoters
Santa Cruz County currently has a handful of opportunities for writers to publish their works.
- Catamaran Literary Reader - Watch for the launch of the Catamaran Literary Reader, a quarterly print-based journal publishing fiction, poetry, essay and art, a project of the Tannery Arts Center.
- Poesy Magazine - Accepts poetry, photography, and reviews, with a focus on Santa Cruz and Boston poetry.
- Poetry Santa Cruz - Dedicated to nurturing the poetry community and bringing poetry to the larger community in Santa Cruz County.
- Porter Gulch Review - Accepts "short stories, screenplays, poems, paintings, drawings, photographs, or any other idea you can transfer to pape," with written pieces under 5,000 words each. Submit up to five poems or two short stories.
- Santa Cruz Sentinel- Accepts up to 150-word Letters to the Editor.
- Stone Soup -Welcomes submissions up to 2,500 words from children 13 and younger.
- UCSC - Publishes a number of journals for student work:
