A key purpose of Santa Cruz Writes (SCW) is to facilitate ways for local writers to come together to share their work, advance their craft, and develop an ongoing sense of community with others who love the written word.

SCW will seek to identify existing writers' groups in Santa Cruz County and develop an online database of these writers' groups. SCW will also develop or share existing tools and techniques for face-to-face writers' group to use with their members.

SCW works with local authors and teachers to promote existing workshops throughout Santa Cruz County. In addition, SCW will begin to develop a series of writing workshops to be provided in partnership with other writing agencies and venues. VIEW the current list of workshops offered.

SCW founders Julia Chiapella and Jory Post hosted the Santa Cruz Writers Retreats at the Happy Valley Conference Grounds in 1998 and 1999, featuring many local writers and authors. SCW is looking to revive the Retreat series in the future.
